T
racey, one of our Pacific Ski Club members invited our members and friends to her garden party.
The world debut of Rocky & The Leprechaun, a live band which often plays at UBC, played in the garden, while Tracey and others provided lots of treats, fresh watermelon and strawberries, some of the best food many had ever tasted at a garden party. Two large, stylishly decorated picnic tables, coolers, chilled Proseco served in cut crystal glasses, other tables, one so unique no one thought it could stay upright, a large red and white stripped sun umbrella and lots of chairs filled the quiet, luscious, green garden, one surrounded by tall, well kept evergreens.
Tracey provided the the main dishes, but plates to share with food, and snacks were brought by guests; not a single dessert, which at most Pot Luck parties is rather unusual.
Guests began dropping by shortly after 5:30 p.m. – as it was a casual affair, people came in light summer attire.
Many brought their children these aging from 17 months to 11 or so. They played with the real, round football, found a native style drum, a Ukulele, a flute or two and mariachis, all of which kept them busy as they ambled through the guest to their own, merry tune(s).
Live Band:
Some local Rock Stars, Rocky & The Leprechaun, a band which often can be heard on the shores of the UBC Endowment land’s beach, played sets of live music at Tracey’s big event. The Leprechaun began with five or six songs on his own, then rocky stepped in for a set, breaking a string with his enthusiastic playing.
The group played Me and Bobby McGee, House of the Rising Sun, Ghost Riders and Cat’s In The Cradle as one unit. Rocky showed his great finger playing and musical talent throughout while the Leprechaun played background for a while. Songs by The Beetles, Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Dr. Hook, and many others were played throughout the night.
As darkness began to set in, a large, propane fire pit was lit which generated more heat than required and was set a medium low, warming the guest who mingles, drank, and partied until just after midnight. Te fire was shut off by 00:15 and the garden cleaned up and it was left as nice as before anyone arrived.
Thank you, Tracey–from all of us at the Pacific Ski Club!
